The Angevine Middle School CAP class set out for a camping trip at Cheley Outpost on a beautiful autumn day. A few of the students had some camping experience, but many of the kids were staying outdoors for the first time. We’ll let you all hear it from the students’ perspective:

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh today’s the day! Can’t wait for the trip!” I thought, driving with my mom on a cold fall morning. (Jack)

We set off in our white van-16 people in the van. it was tight as the adults struggled to find some peace we find it harder and harder to hear the radio with our popping ears the radio disappeared into a cloud of static. We began to sing the easiest song ever “99 bottles of beer on the wall…”  (Ellie)

“When we arrived, setting up the tents was a big struggle. We got our tent set up, but a few people near us became frustrated because their tent wasn’t going up properly. It literally looked like some rabid animal had just tried to set it up. (Anna)”

“We went on a hike and we were one with the trees. We went to the top of the mountain and we got to see mount Meaker. We also played camouflage and I was a bobcat hunting the rabbit. I got the rabbit one time and I nearly missed the rabbit the second time.” (Neal)

“That was pretty fun. For dinner we had burrito bowls which were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Then we made a fire and made smores. We also used fire strikers! (Luke)”

“On the trip I learned so much but the my most favorite was the fire strikers. Sparks flew onto the cotton igniting it into flames. The most important was definitely learning how to be a part of a group. I normally don’t participate because i don’t want to be embarrassed, but what happens in CAP class, stays in CAP class so now I’m more confident. At the end of the day we had a night hike.”  (Ellie)

“While on the hike we stargazed, and looked for constellations, it was a truly wonderful experience.” (Isaac)

“The next day we woke up to a bull moose in our campsite. I was in a hammock, so I could see it very clearly. It was a truly magnificent creature. After the moose left we had mochas with toasted bagels. I put cream cheese on mine.”  (Isaac)

“In the morning I woke up with my feet on Luke and drinking hot mochas out of my Nalgene water bottle. We also were talking about the moose that was walking around our tent. My bagels were burnt, I kept them on the fire too long.” (Neal)

“We then packed up our camps and played gaga-ball and a tanks game until we left. On the way back we stopped at the same river, and ate a delicious pita pizza lunch. We also had some time to sit by ourselves and let in nature, it was a wonderful eye opening experience. We then headed back to the school to the end of a wonderful trip.” -(Isaac)
