Squeezing in one last bit of summer fun, the CAP students at Angevine Middle School spent two adventure-filled days at Cheley Outpost near Estes Park. Sergio, one of the students, reports on the trip for us:
So what happened first is that we got to school at 7:45 and we played a name game then we got in the van. While in the van we ate a lot of snacks. Then we got to the mountains and we stopped on the side of the road to a waterfall and it was really nice and so we chilled for a little. We got to the campsite and we set up the tents and we ate lunch. After that lunch we went for a hike.
Then we hiked to like this abandoned hotel and it was a little creepy because there was a pie inside the hotel. The reason we saw was that we saw through the windows. But we kept hiking and we got to our stop me and a few friends got on a boulder where the view was spectacular and we stayed there for a while just relaxing without making any noise; it was so calm. But it was time to head back so we went back. We stopped at the hotel for a little bit and kept hiking until we got to the campsite when we got there we pretty much just chilled the whole time we were playing games, exploring a little, whittling sticks, etc. And it was getting late so the teacher brought out the marshmallows and we had pretty good s’mores.
After that, we went on a night hike and was pretty fun. We got to a certain point and just laid down and watched the stars. There were a lot of stars that night. After that we hiked back and we went to sleep but at 2:00 in the morning all the boys woke up because it was super cold. But then we went back to sleep then we woke up, like at 7:00. We made some pretty good breakfast and then we just starting exploring. I saw a huge moose with a baby and then I told my friends and then they saw it but suddenly it was looking at us so we skirted out of there. We were running and tripping then everybody was like what’s happening? Then everyone wanted to see it so we went to go see the moose again and we just relax there for a while. After a while we all left then we started drawing and we saw a huge beehive—like the size of a head. In the car on the way home we were making jokes and stuff and that was one of my favorite parts.
