For the first time in two years, Cottonwood Institute held our one and only Throwdown in 2022 – a cornhole tournament that throws down and lives up to its name! This year’s event at McGregor Square in Denver was a raging success. Competition was strong amongst the players, side games were a hoot, and our sponsors provided delicious treats to enjoy on a perfect summer day. Our attendees are already asking to sign up for next year’s tournament and will be practicing all year, so bragging rights and prizes remain to be a hot commodity!
The event raised over $37,500 for Cottonwood Institute programs through incredible sponsorship, auction, donations, and games! Players and guests enjoyed beer from Coors and hard seltzer from Topo Chico, as well as food from Anthony’s Pizza. The yummy food and drinks were just what the doctor ordered to enjoy time in the warm sun and cool shade between games, while our 5280 Mobile DJ was bumpin’ out tunes. To top it off, the whole thing was a Zero Waste Event, made possible by Scraps!
If pro-level cornhole, games, music, and vendors weren’t all entertainment enough, we also had a competitive auction going on! Auction participants entered to win a night at the beautiful Rally Hotel, a night at the Crawford hotel at Union Station, Colorado Rockies tickets, an All You Can Drink Coors Light Party for 20, outdoor gear, restaurant gift cards, date nights, and more! What amazing goodies to contend for!
The money we were able to raise together at this fun-filled event will enable Cottonwood to provide programming to middle and high school students in order to connect them to nature and inspire them to protect it. As these students grow up and find their paths in life, they will be expected to help solve some of the most challenging environmental issues that the planet has ever faced in human history. We can think of few better ways to spend a Saturday than having fun while supporting such a great cause. A huge thank you to McGregor Square for providing the perfect space, and to all our sponsors, donors, and those who came out! We’re already counting down to the next Throwdown!
Cottonwood Institute is committed to building an ecosystem of supporters who are all committed to each others long-term sustainability and success. Please support our sponsors that support local nonprofits like Cottonwood Institute!
